Tangiers looks amazing from the sea, an amphitheatre of blue and white houses overlooking the bay, interspersed with minarets and palm trees. Gone are the golden days of millionaires and inspired artists but Tangiers has kept an individuality if not eccentricity and has plenty to offer from its medina with its soccos (souks) and evocative bars to the beautiful landscape around it. Overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar and controlling the entrance to the Mediterranean Tangiers is an easy crossing to Spain and Europe and now has a new port at 45 kilometres distance for the large ferries.
