This beautiful white washed beach resort 45 kms south of Tangiers was in fact a Spanish stronghold for a time. At the end of the 19th century it was ruled by a local bandit called Raissouli whose palace there is open for the International Music Festival in August. It’s peaceful there now and the medina entered through Bab Homar, part of the Portuguese ramparts, is a pleasant and relaxed place to stroll.
